Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave a speech Tuesday at Georgetown whose ostensible purpose was proclaiming the Trump administration’s support for free and open intellectual discourse on college campuses. (Its actual goal was seemingly to encourage right-wing resentment toward universities who’ve declined to host events by intellectually vacuous white-supremacist sewer trolls like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter.) Here’s one of the lines in his remarks:
Sessions: “In this great land, the government does not tell you what to think or what to say.”

Here, meanwhile, is what Sessions’ boss, the highest-ranking government official in this great land, wrote three hours ago about the black NFL players engaging in political protest by kneeling during the national anthem:
The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!

A retraction of Trump’s remarks in light of their obvious hypocrisy and inappropriateness will no doubt be forthcoming by the end of the day.
