Star Wars: The Last Jedipolarized audiences so much that we can't even agree on loving or hating the infamous blue milk scene. It turns out director Rian Johnson was heavily invested in the realism of that scene, as elaborated by creature designer Neal Scanlan.

"It was designed to be able to breathe and there was a milk delivery system, on the inside," Scanlan told Collider.

Also on the inside: Two full-sized human puppeteers and a fully-functional milking system. The puppeteers (who enter by opening the creatures head, sure) had monitors on the inside to follow the scene while the milking occured. The entire creature, the Thala-siren, was built and transported to filming location via helicopter.

"It made a lovely tasting drink, by the way," Scanlan added. "It wasn’t as disgusting as it looked. They CG-ed a tint on it, in the end, to make it look even more disgusting."
